Residents of the Mainland area have been protesting against the proposed wind farm by World Energy GH2, which aims to power a hydrogen facility to be built in Stephenville for export. The company is conducting two wind test sites to collect data, one in Mainland and the other in Piccadilly, causing concerns among local residents about the impact on their water supply.

However, in typical wealthy businessman fashion, John Risley claims that the water issue predates his company’s arrival, but conveniently offers to bring in water consultants to investigate, while ignoring the valid concerns of the protesting community.

Risley also dismisses rumors that the company plans to expropriate properties to erect wind turbines, stating that no turbines will be placed within a kilometer of a dwelling. However, the fact that the company has to make such assurances is questionable in and of itself.

Despite the company having the “appropriate authority, approvals, and permits” to carry out their work, Risley is disheartened by the vandalism at the Mainland site and theft of a vehicle from Piccadilly. Meanwhile, the protesting community is merely fighting for their basic right to clean and safe water, but according to Risley, they don’t deserve respect for their efforts.

In conclusion, the residents of the Mainland area are rightfully concerned about the impact of the wind farm on their water supply, and the dismissive attitude of Risley and his company towards their valid concerns is unacceptable. The community deserves to be heard and their right to clean water should not be compromised for the profit of a company.
